Several weeks ago, I wrote an article about affordable beauty products. Belatedly I realized that many of those beauty products may not be as accessible to women of color, who are often stuck with fewer options because of limited shades. Beauty products are often geared towards white women, and my recommendations reflect that. And so, in order to rectify my narrow selections, here’s an all new list of affordable beauty products – this time, products that work for all women.
- Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation
Maybelline’s Fit Me! Foundation comes in either Dewy & Smooth or Matte & Poreless. It’s lightweight, which means the coverage won’t be quite as full as other foundations, but it’s meant for a natural look that matches the texture of your natural skin. And for only $8, it’s a steal.
- Jordana Lip Lights Color Shock Gloss
Lip Lights Color Shock Gloss offers a variety of neon bright shades that are perfect for summer. Because it’s gloss, it’s lightweight and it won’t feel sticky on your lips. Better yet – it’s only $5.
- Sleek MakeUP Crème to Powder Foundation
This foundation comes in a spectrum of shades, and so you’re almost sure to find your match. Furthermore, this brand is known for its high pigmentation and affordability. (For good reason, the foundation is only $12!)
- Shea Moisture Weightless Shea Serum Foundation
Although a light coverage foundation, Shea Moisture’s Weightless Shea Serum Foundation packs a high coverage payout. The formula is also gentle on sensitive skin. However, it is dewy and so if you have oilier skin you may want to set it with powder. You’d think a lightweight, high coverage, blendable, and pigmented foundation would cost a fortune – but this one’s a cheap $15.
- Rimmel London Stay Blushed! Liquid Cheek Tint
This liquid blush may come in a tiny tube, but a little goes a long way. It blends well with foundation and comes in a variety of pink shades that are sure to add a summery glow to any skin tone. Find it on Amazon for only $7!
Affordable beauty shouldn’t be and isn’t restricted to Western standards. These brands come highly recommended from women of color and are as quality as they are reasonably priced. A special thanks to Willow Curry for her contributions to this article!
