After-Finals Aftercare

Being done with finals is a cause for celebration, and some well deserved rest. We all talk about how excited we are to have a break, but do we really know what the word “break” means? Here are a few ways to truly take care of yourself after school ends for the semester and enjoy your break.

Sure, the first thing you may want to do is get toether with your friends, and it may feel like you’ve been getting adequate rest, but sleep is the most important tool for your body after a stressful time period. It allows your systems to rejuvenate. Even if you’ve been sleeping during finals week, chances are it wasn’t as restful as the sleep that you will be able to get now. You don’t have to sleep the whole break away, but it’s important to make sure you’re getting enough.

2. Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself

Many of us let our nerves take over once finals end. What grade did I get? Did I fail? Oh god, what if I failed? At the end of the day, the grades can’t be changed. Worrying over them will just make you miserable. Know that you did everything you could to do well, and that is enough. Don’t require yourself to be perfect. Require yourself to do your best. By your best, I mean what is best for you personally. For some people, their best is getting themselves to do the work. For others, it’s acing every test. Everyone’s personal best is different.

3. Don’t Compare

Which brings me to my next point. Don’t compare yourself, or your grades, to everyone else. We all have different strengths, and comparing ourselves can be detrimental.

4. Self-Care

Take the time to give yourself some much needed pampering. It is so important to take care of yourself, during and after busy and stressful times. Take a long bath. Watch your favorite movie. Go out to eat on your own. Self-pampering can provide a great boost in mood, self esteem, and even mental health.

You may notice that’s because this article is somewhat short compared to others. That’s because self care doesn’t have to be hard! It just takes being mindful of how you are treating yourself. Enjoy your break!
