What’s your favorite article on the site?
I’m a little biased, but my favorite article would be “‘White Feminism’ vs. ‘Intersectional Feminism’: What You Missed at the VMAs.” I love this article because I got to write it with my roommate Rachel, but also because it was so much fun to write. The article brought a lot of attention to the magazine, which was really exciting. Two feminist courses at Bard College and Stony Brook used our articles as assigned reading assignments! The article was really successful and I am so proud to be a co-author on it.
What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
One of the best pieces of advice I got was from my parents. They taught me to always be myself no matter what and to love myself for who I am. My mom and dad always encouraged me to follow my dreams no matter what. Things might not always work out at first, but in the end, my dreams will always be achieved if I work for them.
Weirdest food you’ve eaten?
The weirdest food I’ve ever eaten was a sea cucumber. I was in China as an exchange student for the week and we were at a lunch hosted by the principal. The waiters brought out these interesting looking creatures, and I thought I got off the hook because only the adults were served the mysterious meal. Turns out, we all received it. I wasn’t into it, but I ate it because 1) I was at the principals table and it would be rude not to eat it, and 2) it cost $50 for each sea cucumber. It was absolutely awful, but made for a great story.
What’s your favorite book/tv show/movie (answer any or all!)?
Favorite t.v. show: Friends
Favorite Movie: Bridget Jones Diary, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and any Disney Movie
What was your dream career as a child?
To be a Broadway actress, but my parents told me I couldn’t sing. I still can’t.
What’s your favorite social media platform? Least favorite?
My favorite social media site is a three way tie between Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram (I am mostly on Facebook though). My least favorite is Twitter because I find it to be kind of boring.
Who is your feminist idol?
Ellen DeGeneres because she is such a great person who is an advocate for many different causes. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She also is so kind to all kinds of people, which is a rare quality nowadays. I saw Ellen once in person and I cried.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
One of the goals on my bucket list is to travel to every continent. So far I’ve been to North America (obviously), Asia, Australia, and Europe, so I still need to travel to Africa, South America, and Australia (I am determined to make this work). For individual countries, I want to go to Spain, Greece, and New Zealand.
