Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 5.14.19 PM

The semester is in full swing and fall is rapidly approaching. Fall is the season of pumpkin spice lattes, changing leaves, Halloween, the start of sweater weather, and my personal favorite: the return of fall TV. Every fall networks release new shows as well as bring back new episodes of our favorites!

Here’s my Top 5 List (in no particular order) of new TV shows you should check out this fall when you decide to take that much-needed study break:

  1. Supergirl (CBS) – Premieres October 26th at 8:30/7:30C

Summary: Melissa Benoist stars as the badass Supergirl in the new CBS drama. She will be playing DC Comic character Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (she is also Superman’s cousin). She has lived most of her life on Earth and has hidden her supernatural powers. However, all that changes when Hank Henshaw of a super secret agency enlists Kara to help protect the city and its people from sinister threats. Kara now has to balance her new superhero role with her human life.

Why You Should Watch: If you are a comic book nerd or just a fan of DC Comics, this show will be great for you. Also, the show stars a powerful female character who saves countless lives. Most superhero movies and TV shows have male leads, so the fact that this show is all about a female superhero who successfully balances two very different lives is exciting.

       2. Scream Queens (FOX) – 2-Hour Premiere September 22nd, 8/7C. Regular time slot is 9/8C on Tuesdays

Summary: A murder takes place on Wallace University campus, two decades after the university had a mysterious death. There is a huge investigation, basically a modern take on the classic whodunit. The show mainly focuses on the Kappa House, the most popular sorority on campus, lead by infamous mean girl Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts). The Kappa House is also shaken up after the Dean (Jamie Lee Curtis) tells them that they have to take all pledges, not just the rich and elite ones, much to Chanel’s horror.

Why You Should Watch: Ryan Murphy develops great shows, so Scream Queens is definitely going to start out good. Also, if you loved AHS: Coven, this show is based on that season. A new series with another Madison Montgomery in a sorority — sign me up! I also appreciate that this series has an A-list cast that features mostly female characters. This show is going to be a great mix of comedy and horror, so definitely check it out!

    3. Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris (NBC) – Tuesdays 10/9C

Summary: Neil Patrick Harris hosts his own variety show. Anything can happen on the show: Musical performances (in the premiere Harris tried out for The Voice, but unfortunately nobody turned around for him), celebrity appearances, games, audience surprises, and much more. This show has everything and is guaranteed to make you have the Best Time Ever.

Why you should watch: This show just makes you really happy. I am a huge Neil Patrick Harris fan, so I was super excited to hear that he got his own show. Best Time Ever has something new every week, so you will always be entertained. There is never a dull moment on the show. The nice thing is that you can just watch the show every now and then when you have time, rather than feel obligated to keep up with the whole season. It’s a great show to watch when you have some down time or just need a bit of cheering up!

     4. AHS: Hotel (FX) – Premieres October 7th at 10/9C

Summary: Ryan Murphy usually doesn’t reveal much about his upcoming seasons of the anthropologic show, but what we do know is that the season takes place at the Hotel Cortez which is owned by Lady Gaga’s character, The Countess, a “glamorous but deadly creature” who lives off of sex and blood. Her character has a love triangle with Donovan (Matt Bomer) and male model Tristan (Finn Wittrock). All of the characters have deadly secrets and will do whatever it takes to get what they want.

Why You Should Watch: First of all, this show has a killer cast (pun intended). AHS alums Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, and Lily Rabe are all returining to play new characters. There are also awesome AHS newbies like Max Greenfield and Naomi Campbell. The show promises lots of thrills and horrors and is shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet, especially since last season’s AHS: Freak Show turned out to be a flop.

    5. Heroes Reborn (NBC) – Premieres September 24th at 8/7C

Summary: Heroes Reborn takes place one year after a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas. The government blamed people with supernatural abilities for causing the terrorist attack and is on the hunt for these “EVOS.” The show takes place five years after the original Heroes ended and has many new characters, many of which orbit around returning character Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman). Heroes Reborn will follow many different story lines as the new characters come to terms with their abilities.

Why You Should Watch: If you watched the original Heroes, then you will definitely want to check out the spinoff. The show promises lots of adventure and drama, as well as new story lines, so Heroes Reborn will be completely different from its predecessor. And if you love SyFy shows then you will love this!
